  1. I was a DJ in 1976 at a 56,000 watt FM station in Houma, Louisiana, and at its sister station in Thibodaux which was a daytime 500 watt AM station at the time. Both cities were the stomping ground of legendary Cajun recording artist Vin Bruce. By that time Vin enjoyed the rare personal status of being a living legend there in Acadiana and along Bayou Terrebonne which flowed behind the radio station.

I had the pleasure of working with another DJ at the AM station who would host the Saturday afternoon Cajun music show. That's was when he wasn't performing a gig with Vin as his electric bass player.

I asked my friend if he would be so kind as to introduce me to Vin backstage, and during the intermission of a show Vin performed at a crowded local dance hall venue. At halftime during the show my bass player friend came to my table and said, "Let's go meet Vin backstage." So my friend escorted me backstage and into the men's restroom, where I met Vin Bruce in a three-piece blue denim suit and tie and had my picture taken with him.

I asked Vin if he'd perform my favourite of his when he returned to the stage for the second half of his show. And being known for his Cajun generosity, sure enough Vin performed his 1961 hit single "Jole Blon" which he released on Swallow Records after signing a record contract with them that same year. So Vin signs a record contract, and his first single release on the label is a bullet on the charts.

Meeting him touched my heart. And because of meeting Vin Bruce in the men's restroom backstage during the break at that Cajun dance hall venue along Bayou Terrebonne, I'm now a singer and performer myself here in Colorado. I'm doing a solo acoustic Christmas show this holiday season. And you know what song I will sing to close my show, don't you? And I perform the song to honour this pioneering recording artist Vin Bruce, who first released 78rpm singles for Columbia Records Nashville in 1951, and who all these years later has inspired me to my career.

The music world lost the King of Cajun Singers...this musically inclined son of a fisherman and trapper born in Cut Off, Louisiana, who taught himself guitar...only a few months ago in June. So Vin doesn't do local venues at dance halls down the bayou anymore, for instead he's booked at heavenly venues these days. And it's back to the big time stage now for that artist with a golden voice and Cajun accent and expensive Martin guitar, who loved to build beautiful cabinetry. Because by now Vin has gotten all the angels and St. Peter himself hooked on Cajun Swing music and ice cold Dixie Beer and boiled crawfish. "Hey Vin, sing 'Jole Blon' for them after the break, they'll love it up there."
